These grips are Hogue’s Monogrip single piece set, they come with the replacement mounting system which incorporates the alignment pin into the fastening screw system, you do not need to purchase an alignment pin if replacing rubber grips. 2017 - Present Colt Cobra uses Colt Small Frame Grips
After 1966, Colt redesigned all of their long "D" frame revolvers to a short "D" frame revolver. Our Hogue wood are designed to fit Colt revolver models with the short "D" frame only as pictured. This frame fits other post-1966 short "D" frame revolvers as listed: Detective Special, Diamondback, Police Positive Special, Cobra, Agent and Viper.
The Colt Detective Special and Diamondback are both D-Frames and can use the same grip. Detective special guns are generally small concealable handguns so we make small grips for them. The Diamondback is generally a larger target type handgun so we make the grips for them larger and more hand filling.
Our grips fit guns made after 1966 as listed below. Later frames such as the Magnum Carry model are known as SFVI frames and are slightly thicker at the top. Because of this wood grips are available for both the standard D frame and for the SFVI and must be ordered accordingly. The Hogue rubber grip fits both because it has enough flex to accommodate the frame difference.
Wood grips have an open backstrap
-1966 to 1981 model cobras will fit wood grips (square butt during those production years)
2017 production and newer will not fit wood grips
1965 production and prior will not fit wood grips
- Also might fit police positive.
-SFVI models will fit the Colt Magnum Carry
-Will not fit pre 1966 models with longer grip frame that has rounded bottom corners
Hogue grips for the Detective Special are the one-piece Monogrip design. They are ambidextrous allowing both right and left handed use. Installation is simple requiring the grip pin be removed and the stirrup to be snapped in place. The grip then slides up from the butt, with one screw securing the grip through the butt. All necessary hardware is provided. The stirrup pin goes through the center of the frame, not the pin hole.
-Does not fit the 1950 model of the colt police
-Does not fit the 2017 model of the Colt Cobra. Rubber will accommodate the new variance, but not wood.
